about

"Tryptophan Destroy Fashion/Extemporize" is the 2009
release of long time Staten Island NY, psychedelic indie rock band
Tryptophan, who has been recording and performing music since the late
90's, primarily releasing their music on their web page
www.tryptophanmusic.com.

The 70 minute CD is actually 2 separate projects: "Destroy Fashion" a
concept album about life in the new century USA; and "Extemporize" a
collection of long form psychedelic instrumentals.

"Destroy Fashion" was a long in the works project produced by
vocalist/guitarist Ron Hill. Its soundscapes have Tryptophan
stretching into musical territory like that of their heroes Pink Floyd
and The Flaming Lips. The production of the cd took Hill and the band
hundreds of hours of recording and mixing over a 4 year period to
perfect.

"Extemporize" is a series of marathon jams with long atmospheric and
creepy instrumentals. This music captures Tryptophan in a more
experimental format, with more empthis on mood and less on studio
polish. Tryptophan has been known to wander off musically in live
performance.

Tryptophan members include drummer Frank Cavallo, Steve Pepe, and Nick
Purpura. All 3 of these men have served countless NYC rock acts in
various capacities: Frank was/is the drummer of The Headlocks, Joey
Semz, and The Outskirts; Steve has performed guitar with his band
Seymore Glass, The Melonfarmers and plays keyboard for The Headlocks,
(as well as a public high school music teacher!); Nick has played
guitar in NYC pop band HeadQuarters, hardcore band Muddfoot, and
currently plays guitar in The Headlocks.

Aiding Tryptophan on this cd were bassist/keyboardist Chris McAllen,
of the bands The Lilys and Miracle of 86; keyboardist Will Schalda of
the bands Pablo, The Realistics, and 3 Steps Up; and audio engineer
Alex Armitage.

Archived footage playing on old TV in the living room, we pan around the corner to go to the Kitchen.

II. KITCHEN (00:24 -
Opening few seconds of footage of pancakes being cooked interlaced with clips of old time television that is playing on an old TV in the kitchen. There are a few shots used to build the scene.

On-stage (01:03)
Tryptophan terrorist removes mask to Guitar solo with band eventually joining in one by one on stage. Light fade out with last few seconds (01:30 – 01:36)

V. POSSIBLE LONG_PLAY VERSION
This could easily lead in to a ”lights-up” shot of the band fully formed n stage in a live performance of the second song about kitty cats. All pancake related damage would magically be replaced by lots of cats. (Perhaps, everyone you know with cats an bring their cats to the shoot and we can feed them both as thanks. Maybe 2 hours before Martini Red opens on a night of a show)

NOTE TAKING SESSION

Pancake song 1
You describe a terrorist cell (possible customers of pancake air) prepping pancakes in detail, loading terror pancake wagon, and attacking in shot by shot detail, a audience at a hipster bar. We see the origins/prep behind of each fruity attack

Lights go down for part 2

Pancake 2
Tiki bar red green yellow 70s grass dress hay skirts, lots of cats at the concert, small set, filled with cats little martini red, cats are the band. Cats are an alternate’s universe. Cat puppets, paper cats?
Described as redressed Martini Red, we see a performance of "the band". Fairly standard, what is the hook? Cat leaves shows sees plane cat in the cockpit.

Pancake 3
Traveling video bicycles. Remake of BMX kids talking ET to park. Lots of bike POV, loosely based on ET’s BMX scene. Bikes fly into the sky, landing at the terrorists at HQ. Lots of peddling, wheels spinning, etc Motion.

(Stack of pancakes in basket? Vs. Cat in Blanket - Sub-out ET)

Pancake 4.
Old AFX racetracks are pushed aside on the plywood table, to make room for the Terrorists plotting pancakes 1. Small diorama, making orders, show old footage. Guy in back hunter s Thompson figure director chair mystery man. The big chief aviator glasses cut to black to lenses.

That Front
Open with the Fireman, on the couch eating a microwave dinner, off of a snack tray. There are paintings of the famous fire scenes from the news; Hindenburg, photos of fires. The house is a shrine to fires. Cutting meat, spoon potatoes eating. Watching the watching the Yule log.... he is consumed by fire. He is a fanatic of fire, his idea of fire is different, he likes fire. Into fire forever, stacks of Human Torch comics. Heat miser, all flame things, Liberace. (Turns on the sink flames come out, he drinks fire. ) (Fireplace in every room.) Loves fires.

Buggy Grain
Long chain of cardboard, a series of cardboard time-tunnels. Crawl thru, bigger smaller boxes, tunnel of boxes. The height and width of the tunnel varies and can have slight gaps that reveal elements of the dimensions. Boxes are time tunnels. Scenes of all different videos are in the secret passages director’s notes, his secret world. There is a godly light at the end of the boxes. God. (Think: Being John Malkovich)

Magnetic Pulse
Come out of box tunnel in dept store lot. There is a stack/mountain of boxes behind him. Perhaps the tunnel opens a hole in the sky. Directors glasses are found at his feet on the asphalt. One the glasses are on he realizes that boxes are different here. They hold not magic travel capabilities, he see people simply carrying food in boxes. Boxes have no power here.

Letdown
Old apparatus, the director’s electrician. dressed like a tech. Utility worker failing slow motion. Not in the lair. Kid/Man making a TV out of cardboard boxes, saran wrap knobs buttons shorts out.

Paint In The Corner
Director screen Head The Monkees. More American Graffitt all scenes on the screet. Going thru stuff. Random scenes from the past. Grid 17x9. Big the big one opens up to brooklyn. Wonka style. Atari paddles.

Awful Page
Cardboard Brooklyn vs Staten Island.
Intercut with a hipster preping and pruning.
HIPSTER KILLER getting himself ready for attack, suits up drives assault vehicle.
Slapping Pancake Air Stickers everywhere along the way.
Hipster Killer punches hipster in face, hipster turns to dust (dematerializes ala Obi Wan?).
Hipster Killer looks out over neighborhood, see hipster guy everywhere.
"AK kills RS".
Empty Suits?

The Spark
"Wes Anderson style/colors" TV set, lady sleeping. Old lady, she is a waitress, work drudgery. Poltergeist. Warm yellow light.

Hooka Brother Up
Rotten kid like the kid from the virgin video is a cute menace. Rides big wheels to delis, steals gum while deli man cuts bologna. He will drop candy to look up girl’s skirts if the opportunity should arise.

Stealing for years. Has a basement stockpile filled with plundered booty, cats in jars, baby rattle flashbacks, gum in jars.

Sticks his mom in the ass with a BBQ fork at a family BBQ in a flashback scene.

The Restort
Fireman trudges through weeds (in slowmo?) hauling a hose. Walk thru various locals struggling with hose. Shoots water into ocean. City burns behind him. Salvation Giveback.

Someday Soon
Fireman walks thru ruins, everything better now that its burned down.
